Latest Updates from Our Project:

We've unlocked the Citizens of Rome plastic box set & A New Stretch Goal
about 1 year ago – Sat, Mar 18, 2023 at 01:07:34 PM

Last night we unlocked the stretch goal for the Citizens of Rome plastic box set. This is a big deal for us at Footsore MIniatures as it is our first plastic miniatures. We know there are many questions; hopefully, we have answered many below. If we haven't, make sure to ask in the comments. More importantly, don't forget to add a box to your pledge and be the first to get your hands on them.

CITIZENS OF ROME PLASTiC BOX SET

Footsore Miniatures has a great range of fighters for GoR, which are very evocative and popular, they have lots of different clothes and equipment, and we wanted to emulate and improve on this for the plastic versions.

Moving to plastic is an exciting opportunity to move the miniatures onto the next phase, give the gamer much more choice for their fighters, and create a genuinely unique gang.

When we look at the vast variety of clothing worn in Rome, it is a challenge to cover everything with multi-part kits and to still allow for lots of difference without ‘kit bashing’.

The solution is to have separate legs and torsos. A couple of tunic lengths mean that we can have a variety of legs that will go with all the torsos.

The torsos can be the classic tunic, one-shoulder version, or even a naked upper torso, giving us many choices – you can imagine your bare-chested fighters intimidating their enemies. At the same time, the more conservatively dressed figures will make good members of the mob!

Current metal miniatures

Many head choices will add character – you might choose a bearded head to show a wily old fighter or perhaps use the same head to suggest a gentleman strolling through Rome.

Again, some of the heads might be more suitable for fighters and some for civilians, but the choice will mean that you can make up individual fighters or interesting mobs, hopefully, a choice of around a dozen heads!

Current metal miniatures

A good selection of arms will be supplied, some with short sleeves and some bare – this will allow your Citizens of Rome to have sleeveless tunics or classic T-shirt tunics, obviously bare arms for the bare-chested chaps. The majority of the right arms and some of the left arms will be carrying various weapons, from short swords to slings (for the mob, the weapons can be cut off). We aim to include some civilian paraphernalia as well, perhaps a walking stick, amphora and other suitable bits (we would like to have a pair of arms hugging a sack or box to represent the poor souls being used as beasts of burden.

Our aim is to cram the frame with many extras like cloaks, a couple of small shields, various pouches, and hidden weapons; also, spare hands holding different weapons give you even more choice!

For the brave amongst you, the plastic frame allows you to ‘kit bash’ whatever your imagination can conjure up. We look forward to seeing many fantastically converted ‘Citizens of Rome.’

Current metal miniatures

In summary, the frame should give you six figures usable as fighters or mob members. You will be able to make both without needing to do anything except glue the appropriate parts together, or you can go wild with all the options available on the frame making your unique characters, or you can go even further with ‘kit bashing’ to create figures that are special to you and your version of Rome.

In Gangs of Rome, everybody is different, and this frame made in conjunction with Wargames Atlantic will allow you to make whatever you can imagine!

Hitting the stretch goal for our first plastic box set has enabled us to give Wargames Atlantic the green light. Having thoroughly briefed their sculptor, he will make a start, and we are aiming to bring you renders of how the figures will look before the end of the campaign. Rest assured, a key part of the brief was ensuring the new plastic figures fit with the current range.

THE NEXT STRETCH GOAL

Being funded via Kickstarter means there is always a waiting period before your pledge arrives. To help ease that wait, if we unlock this next stretch goal, everyone who backs the Veteran pledge or Beginners bundle pledge will receive a FREE digital copy of the full rulebook this year. This will be the final print version, everything you need to start playing version two.

Post 24 hours update
about 1 year ago – Fri, Mar 17, 2023 at 07:46:56 AM

Good afternoon citizens. We wanted to start by expressing how extraordinary this Kickstarter has been so far. The pledges have kept rolling in, taking us over £41k, which is an incredible amount. We have been left speechless by your enthusiasm and support.

STRETCH GOALS

The graphics below show us where we currently are regarding stretch goals. Almost all have been unlocked.  Pop in through the 'manage your pledge' button to include them as add-ons.

We'd like to apologise for using holding images for the new fighter class miniatures. In our defence, we thought we would have had enough time to finish them off while we were up and running, but you caught us with our pants down!

Paul Hicks has promised to have the new miniatures ready very soon, and rest assured he is working on them.  Here's a work-in-progress sneak peek.

Brawlers
Acrobats and Thieves, waiting to be dressed

Although we have been powering our way through the stretch goals, we have the big one left for the plastic box set on the horizon. ..

BEGINNERS - STARTER BUNDLE FIGHTERS

For those who have asked (and those who haven't), here is a close-up of the gang fighters included in the starter bundle. We acknowledge that they are tiny on the pledge graphic; hopefully, this makes up for it.

GANGS OF ROME v2 - EXAMPLE ROUND

George Asling & Andy Hobday take us through an example round of the game.  If you have any questions about what you see, please drop them in the comments, and I am sure the chaps will quickly answer you.

Let us finish this update by thanking you all so much for your backing. It is mind-blowing and awesome in equal measure. We are indeed grateful. If you have any questions about the Gangs of Rome Kickstarter, do not hesitate to message us, and please, can we ask you to share the Kickstarter as much and as often as you can? It really helps us to get the message out there.

Hello we are almost 15 hours in!
about 1 year ago – Thu, Mar 16, 2023 at 01:37:52 AM

Well, that all went a bit bonkers, and we are just over halfway into the first 24 hours of the campaign, which means everyone who has backed so far, and completes their pledge later, will receive the fab early backer miniature of Priscus Brutus. We have been asked, and the answer is we will add Priscus to your pledge in the pledge manager after the campaign has ended.

This miniature will only be free for early backers until 6 pm today GMT (16 March 2023). You must make a pledge before this deadline.

STRETCH GOALS

So far, we have powered our way through the stretch goals! We have added 11 new miniatures to the Gangs of Rome range through your backing.

Below is what has been unlocked...

NB: Any stretch goal images you see in black are placeholders, as the figures have not been finished yet. You have been too quick for us! As soon as Paul Hicks has them completed, we will swap the actual figure images and share them with you via an update.

You can use existing miniatures as Rixa (Brawlers), which we encourage, but we thought it would be nice to have new miniatures made for the new character classes in version two.

ROMES MOST WANTED

Due to popular demand, we also added the Daughters of Sappho and the Sons of Orcus as Add-ons to the campaign.  These guys are notorious gang fighters whose profiles will be available in the rulebook.

Please let us know in the comments below if there is anything else from the current range you would like to see included.

PLASTICS

If you watch the Kickstarter video, you may notice we have set an ambitious stretch goal for a Citizens of Rome plastic box set in partnership with Wargames Atlantic. Because of the cracking support we have already received, we are much closer than we thought we would be after 14 hours.

Wouldn’t it be great to unlock this pledge goal and bring plastic miniatures to Rome?

Wow! What an incredible start indeed.
about 1 year ago – Wed, Mar 15, 2023 at 12:34:13 PM

Wow, it didn't take long at all, less than 40 minutes.  Thank you so much, everyone. It is a fabulous result indeed!

STRETCH GOALS

So far, we have unlocked two stretch goals containing brand new miniatures, The Oscan Players and the first set of Vigiles.  As the Players are part of the Romes Most Wanted, we thought they needed company, so we have made the Daughters of Sappho and The Sons of Orcas available as Add-ons.

It's time to unlock the next set of Vigiles Urbani, as we think we may need more than two of them trying to keep law and order.

For now, though, we want to thank everyone who has so far pledged their support to this campaign. We can't make it happen without you. Make sure you tell everyone you know, as we really appreciate the support.
